Blah blah

From museums showcasing broken hearts and hangovers to  Game of Thrones tours, stunning beaches and epic city walls, Croatia is a small country packed with interesting experiences for any traveller.

In our latest You’ve Been Where we spoke to Andy Stapleton to get his tips on travelling through this amazing country.

We love hearing about the travel experiences of our friends, family and readers of AllAbroad.

We pick up so many tips and find so many new places to travel.

We thought you might like to hear about their adventures too. So in this section we turn the website over to you, our travel family.

Read on for travel tips from the people that help inspire our adventures.

Who are you and what do you do for a living?

Hey, I’m Andy. I’m a landscaper.

Where is home?

Home is Melbourne, Australia. I’m currently living in the UK.

Where have you been? When did you go?

I’ve been to Croatia, we visited Dubrovnik, Split and Zagreb. I travelled there in September.

Who did you travel with?

I travelled with my partner. We also travelled with her Aunty.

What was the highlight of your trip?

Dubrovnik. I loved doing the Game of Thrones tour. Particularly, throughout the tour where we looked at the different filming locations and heard some behind the scenes stories. Our tour guide met a lot of the cast during filming.

What did you like least about your trip?

My least favourite part was not being able to complete the Dubrovnik wall walk. Our pass was only valid until the end of the day but we thought it was for 24 hours after you purchased it, and that you could regain entry. Sadly,  that wasn’t the case so we only completed half.

Do you have any funny stories from your trip?

We had a lot of laughs over the trip. A standout is the museums in Zagreb. We explored the Museum of Broken Relationships and the Museum of Hangovers.

While the Museum of Broken Relationships had a lot of really sad stories they also had some which made us laugh and were light-hearted.

The Museum of Hangovers was hilarious. Each room was a different stage of a “night out”, they had different simulations and experiences which were very funny.

What were the locals like?

The locals were lovely. They were all really nice people who were very welcoming. Particularly our Airbnb hosts, they had lots of recommendations and were always willing to help.

What was the food like?

Overall, the food was really good. The food in Split was my favourite.

I’m not a vegan but one of my favourite meals was at a vegan restaurant. Split has a good range of food from around the world. We ate a focaccia at “focaccina” which was fresh, delicious and I’ll never forget it.

Did you learn anything about yourself or the world on this trip?

I learnt a lot about the country’s history. Split has a self-guided walking tour through old town which taught me a lot about the history of the city and the walls.

Would you recommend others travel here? Why/Why not?

Yes! Croatia is a beautiful country. The beaches are amazing as well as the countryside. There is lots to see and do with each city offering something special.

Do you have any tips for people thinking of travelling here?

When looking at your location, take into consideration the terrain of the spot. When we looked on maps our Airbnb was close to the city distance-wise but was not walkable and was actually outside of the city centre.
