Follow in our footsteps - offline with a GPS guided app

You know those times when you’re wandering through a city and you think, I read something about this place, now what was it? Of course you’re overseas, so you might not have data roaming on your phone and can’t go back to the website that inspired you to visit this amazing city in the first place – even if you could find that particular story among the hundreds of sites you looked at in the name of research.

So what do you do? Kick yourself for not writing it down? Fumble your way through, looking for clues that might help you remember the key points? Or forget all about the article and just continue on with your sightseeing?

Ade and I often follow in other people’s footsteps when we travel, we did the whole crossing by cable car from  Chamonix to La Palud because we read about it in a book. We followed their journey precisely (we had taken notes, luckily) and we visited  India purely because we saw our friend Barb’s photos and decided they looked so awesome we just had to go.

In Australia we crossed the middle of the country – literally the middle, through deserts and local Indigenous towns – by following notes we found online.

We’ve done our research and taken notes, sometimes we’ve even stored photos on our devices in the hope we could find just that place to take our own photo.
